Top 25 Hip Hop Rap Songs (August 2012)

by Yung Drew on August 6, 2012

It’s been a long freaking time since I’ve posted up on this site, and it’s really lame actually. I have been in a major life rut trying to get back on my feet. Basically just when I think life is getting better it turns around and smacks me down to rock bottom, no (lamborghini) mercy. Then at rock bottom I somehow fall even deeper and am smashed into emotional submission. I guess the death of someone, a brutal breakup, looking for a new job with bennies, will challenge anyone’s spirits a little. Anyways, I’m going to start posting up some hip hop again just to regain my sanity.

Since I generally always rock with a Top 10 Hip Hop Songs post to start the week, this is no exception. I’ve been off of my grind for awhile so some of these tracks may seem old, but these are what I’ve been banging this summer. I have been listening to everything from Tity Boi mixtapes and trying to decipher the massively skewed autotune of Future. I may have missed some bangers, but that’s probably because I haven’t listened to certain albums yet. I have a lot of catching up to do, but these are my top picks for the summer thus far based on listening to a fuck ton of mixtapes.

It has been about a year since I’ve last posted up my top picks.  Last time doing so was back in August 2011!  Talk about majorly slackin.  Anyways  I desperately need to polish up on my writing skills, critical thinking, analysis, etc.  Although I made a Top 10 list, there are some bonus bangers below – I listed off 25 total tracks for you to check out.  It seems as though everywhere I go, the song “Cashin Out” by the amusingly named “Cash Out” has been spammed through radio waves so much that I had no choice but to put it up at the top.  It’s probably the most played track of the summer on my playlists, so be sure to hit that up if you don’t have it.

Jay Rock released his official “Code Red video” off of his latest “Follow Me Home album” which is in stores now. This joint features Kendrick Lamar as well as production from Phonix Beats and is the second track on the album. Lyle Wayne and Top Dawg Ent. bring you this latest video with Chris Martinez. I really liked the “Say Wassup video” that they did with the entire Black Hippy group to kick start things. Now the Strange Music representative is back with another banger and is showing you that his latest project is pretty damn consistent.

Jay Rock – Code Red Video (feat. Kendrick Lamar & Phonix Beats)

In case you missed it, Kendrick also recently released his official “ADHD video” which turned out really solid as well. Anyways, another track I really liked off of Jay Rock’s recent release featured Kendrick and is called “Hood Gone Love It.” Hopefully you’ve had time to check up on this project and support if you liked what you’ve heard. I included a download link that will take you to his album on iTunes where you can cop this track as well as others or the complete project if you missed it’s initial release. [click to continue…]
