Detroit Redwings: 2008 Stanley Cup Champions

Reasons Detroit won the 2008 Stanley Cup:

  1. Best coach in the N.H.L. : Mike Babcock was phenomenal and a big reason for Detroit’s success.
  2. Pavel Datsyuk – was amazing, played good defense, better offense and is one of the top 5 players in the league
  3. Heinrich Zetterberg was amazing: he won the Conn Smythe trophy and is a top 5 player in the league
  4. Johan Franzen was awesome – lead the playoffs in goals and is a great leader for his line; awesome player here.
  5. Chris Osgood played phenomenal every game. Was he the best goalie in the N.H.L.? You could definitely make the argument for it – he was brilliant in net when the Wings needed him most. His goals per game average was a little over 1 goal per game: phenomenal!
  6. Tomas Holmstrom – Awesome job in front of the net, and overall a hussler in all areas of the ice
  7. Nicklas Lindstrom – He comes through every year w/ big plays for the Wings and is the first guy to be a European captain of the Redwings when they won the Cup.
  8. Dallas Drake – really laid some big hits on guys, fun to watch
  9. EVERYONE ELSE ON THEIR ROSTER: Lilja, Draper, Maltby, Hudler, Rafalski, Kronwall, the list goes on-and-on… all of these guys are all-stars. When you have players like Chris Chelios, McCarty, and Hasek on the bench, you know you’ve got an incredible team!
  10. They had the best team in the N.H.L. – hands down. Pittsburgh was lucky to take it to game 6. In my opinion, the series should have been 4 games to 1.

Notable players for the Pens:

  1. Marc-Andre Fleury – If it wasn’t for this guy, the series would’ve been 4 games to none! He played phenomenal and is arguably the best goalie of 2008.
  2. Crosby – Sid the kid always plays tough and is a force to be reckoned with. He had a good series.
  3. Hossa – Played incredibly tough in the second half of this series.
  4. Malkin – I was a little disappointed with him early on, but he played very well.
  5. Orpeck – Definitely the Pens M.V.P. on defense. He was the reason that Detroit didn’t score more often and stayed away from Fleury’s rebounds. This guy deserves a lot of credit – he played extremely well!
  6. Ganchar – Sergei Ganchar did an awesome job all year and in this series. He played clean, tough hockey and stayed out of the box. Definitely the best defenseman for the Pens all year. Orpeck was the best during the finals though.

For next year:

Go Colorado Avalanche! They have always been my favorite team. But in all seriousness, I think the Pens will have a great shot at winning it all. Detroit will always make a good run in the playoffs. Hopefully we will have as good of a match-up as we did this year. Those teams out East need to really step it up… The Eastern Conference absolutely sucked this year – besides the Pens…

Though my favorite sport came to a close, it was fun to watch. Now, on to that Celtics Vs. Lakers series!!! You’ll see a post about that tomorrow.

Pharrell Throws Chubby Kid Off Stage At N.E.R.D. Concert

Skateboard P gets a little bit amped when a fat brosef wearing a Cincinatti Reds cap jumps on stage and starts dancin’ wit the crew.  Pharrell hi-fives the kid, then gives him a nice push off stage.  After the push, he figured he’d help the kid back up to avoid a lawsuit… Good quick thinking by Skateboard P on this one.  Kids getting rowdy nowadays…

Detroit At The Mellon Arena: Game 6 Against Crosby’s Pens

Chris Osgood

Be sure to watch the big game tonight on N.B.C. @ 8:00 E.T. @ Pittsburgh’s Mellon Arena! Game 6 of the N.H.L. finals people! This series is really heating up and could be pushed to a game 7 if Pittsburgh gets the job done. Below is my prediction and mini-analysis of what needs to happen in order for each team to win.

My prediction:

This game will be extremely close and competitive all around. It’s in Pittsburgh, so we’ll probably have a white-out in the crowd. Detroit will be wearing their white jerseys, so they might blend in w/ the crowd a little bit. Pittsburgh likes their crowd and believe me, this game will be sold out. All 17,000 seats will be filled.

In the end, I’m predicting a 4 – 2 win by Detroit – with the fourth goal being an empty-netter. I think that Pittsburgh is tired from the game on Monday and doesn’t have the depth that Detroit has. Detroit knows that they blew game 5, so they will come out strong and be prepared to play a hard, intense, full game of hockey. They need to stay out of the penalty box though, if they hope to win. The refs have been terrible all throughout these finals, so it could cost either team the game if they aren’t careful.

Key players in tonight’s game include:

For the Pens:

  1. Fleury – Pens goalie Marc-Andre Fleury needs to be hot as he as been all series. If he plays as well as he did last game, I don’t see Detroit winning this game. BTW>> If the Pens win the championship, this guy deserves the M.V.P. He’s the only, I repeat, ONLY reason they are still alive!
  2. Crosby – He always plays tough, he’ll need to be exceptional tonight if they hope to win
  3. Malkin – He will need to step it up tonight and score a goal if they hope to win
  4. Hossa – He needs to stay hot, he’s been awesome for the Pens
  5. Ganchar – Needs to play a full, healthy game – his injury from last game may leave him shaky tonight
  6. The Luck Factor – Pittsburgh will need some garbage goals and lucky plays to stay alive and move on to game 7 in Detroit!

For the Wings:

  1. Zetterberg / Datsyuk – They always play well, but got a little bit off their game in game 5 at times. If they come w/ the same momentum that they have been all series, the wings will dominate in puck possession when they hit the ice.
  2. Franzen – Needs to keep playing well. He is one of the strongest players in the N.H.L. and is leading the league in playoff goals for 2008. He always plays well, but will need to capitalize on a couple of his shots.
  3. Holmstrom – Tomas Holmstrom wasn’t playing up to par in game 5. I don’t know if he’s 100% recovered from his injury in game 4. He may have returned to game 5 w/ hopes that he’d play in the final game of the Stanley Cup 2008 Finals… Anyways, he needs to get in front of the net and do what he does best.
  4. Osgood – Chris Osgood has played awesome in this series and will need to be hot again tonight if Detroit hopes to win.
  5. Samuelson – Samuelson will need to step up his play a bit. He has played hard in all games in this series, but needs to step-his-game up for this one and score a goal!
  6. Defensemen (Kronwall, Lindstrom, etc.) – The D-men need to step it up a little bit for Detroit. Start taking better shots on net and capitalizing on the powerplays. Step up and make some big hits on Pittsburgh’s offense.
  7. Mike Babcock – In my opinion, the guy definitely deserves coach of the year. He needs to keep his team calm tonight and remind them to play hard, but not chippy and to stay out of the penalty box.

U.S. Placers by C.R.S. (Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Pharrell Williams) Ft. Thom Yorke

Even though the song U.S. Placers is very old, I felt like posting up this vid. It’s a quality song, that features kids that look pretty close to Lupe, Kanye, and Skateboard P (Pharrell). I’m really looking forward to hearing more from C.R.S. I’m waiting on Seeing Sounds droppin on Jun 10 by N.E.R.D. That shit will be hella creative…with some crazy sounding shit… so be sure to get yo hands on that. After Kanyeezy’s tour and Pharrell’s, they gotta make another track. The only other track that features C.R.S. is Everyone Nose (Remix), which will be on N.E.R.D.’s album as a bonus.
