Young Dro‘s latest “Drocabulary Mixtape” has been out for awhile now, and the track “Maserati” is easily one of the top 3 tracks on there. I thought that the mixtape as a whole was pretty solid, and I’m a huge fan of Young Dro. The sample that he got for this track made me take the time to dig up the original “he’s the kind of person who goes to drive a Maserati” sample from Judy Collins song “Hard Lovin Loser.” I think her song is really dope too. I realized that I need to start breaking down my favorite hip hop music samples for the people…
Judy Collins – Hard Lovin’ Loser (Maserati Sample)
Above is the version by the boss Judy Collins from her song “Hard Lovin Loser” and you can hear the sample that Young Dro used for his “Maserati” chorus at the 1:05 marker. When artists flip old school samples like this, it definitely catches my interest. Sure a lot of samples have been flipped, but not many sound good. I really dig the original version of this Folk song by Judy, but also really like the hip hop spin that Dro was able to incorporate in his latest mixtape… Click here to read more.. »
Mac Miller dropped the video for the song “Knock Knock” awhile back, but since I wasn’t updating my website for awhile, I pretty much didn’t get the chance to post it up. Anyways, in case you don’t know, Mac Miller is one of my new favorite emerging artists and it’s mostly because of his “Best Day Ever mixtape” which I reviewed. The boy can rhyme and I’m wondering when he’s going to be dropping his first actual album for the people. Anyways, if you haven’t had a chance to check out his material yet, this track “Knock Knock” is a pretty damn good introduction.

K.I.D.S.: Where you might have heard the song “Knock Knock”
You may have heard the song “Knock Knock” from his K.I.D.S. (Kikin’ Incredibly Dope Shit) mixtape/EP whatever you want to call it. I bought the song on iTunes and played it for people that I know and they all loved the sound, especially the instrumental. The chorus on this track is really catchy and the sample is absolutely ridiculous. Another track that went under a lot of people’s radar is “Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza” which also has a video that’s MOST DOPE like what Mac represents. Mac has really been making big moves in the game as of late and I’ve really been impressed with what he’s been able to accomplish coming out of Philadelphia. Click here to read more.. »
