Top 25 Hip Hop Rap Songs (August 2012)

It’s been a long freaking time since I’ve posted up on this site, and it’s really lame actually. I have been in a major life rut trying to get back on my feet. Basically just when I think life is getting better it turns around and smacks me down to rock bottom, no (lamborghini) mercy. Then at rock bottom I somehow fall even deeper and am smashed into emotional submission. I guess the death of someone, a brutal breakup, looking for a new job with bennies, will challenge anyone’s spirits a little. Anyways, I’m going to start posting up some hip hop again just to regain my sanity.

Since I generally always rock with a Top 10 Hip Hop Songs post to start the week, this is no exception. I’ve been off of my grind for awhile so some of these tracks may seem old, but these are what I’ve been banging this summer. I have been listening to everything from Tity Boi mixtapes and trying to decipher the massively skewed autotune of Future. I may have missed some bangers, but that’s probably because I haven’t listened to certain albums yet. I have a lot of catching up to do, but these are my top picks for the summer thus far based on listening to a fuck ton of mixtapes.

It has been about a year since I’ve last posted up my top picks.  Last time doing so was back in August 2011!  Talk about majorly slackin.  Anyways  I desperately need to polish up on my writing skills, critical thinking, analysis, etc.  Although I made a Top 10 list, there are some bonus bangers below – I listed off 25 total tracks for you to check out.  It seems as though everywhere I go, the song “Cashin Out” by the amusingly named “Cash Out” has been spammed through radio waves so much that I had no choice but to put it up at the top.  It’s probably the most played track of the summer on my playlists, so be sure to hit that up if you don’t have it.

Weekly Top Hip Hop Songs & Rap Music (August 1, 2011)

Here are the WEEKLY Top Hip Hop Songs (or Top Rap Songs – whatever you want to call them) as of August 1, 2011 that I selected for the people. The thing is, I could have easily made a list of my Top 50 or even 100 since I only did one top songs post in June. I plan on doing at least four posts (one per week) with the top songs of the week for the people. I know that there were a lot of songs that I missed, but I had to narrow it down to a top ten based on a number of different factors including – whether the song has a video, whether the song is a single, whether the artist has an album out, etc.  If you want to check out last month’s list read more here: “Top Rap Hip Hop Songs July 2011.”

Additionally, I did my best to diversify based on artists. I know a lot of people don’t like Gucci Mane and if I was making a list entirely for myself, I would have included a few more songs from him on here. I do have a couple songs including Kendrick Lamar, but as of late, he’s been an MVP in the game. The reason that I put the Drake song that was just released up at the top is because it’s that good.

1. Headlines – Drake (prod. Boi-1da)

What more is there to say about this latest leak from Drake with production from Boi-1da other than its amazing? If you’re a Drake fan, you’ll easily be able to tell that this single will do really well on the charts. Although “Marvins Room” was a good predecessor to this track, this one definitely outshines his first single. The last time Drake and Boi-1da linked up, they made the song “Over” which I thought was also a banger. Be on the lookout for Drizzy Drake’s upcoming “Take Care album.” I’m hoping that it’s better than his initial release because I didn’t really like “Thank Me Later” nearly as much as “So Far Gone.”

2. Against The Bottom – Grieves

Grieves is an artist on the Rhymesayers label and they always go for quality and realness above all when it comes to making music. This track “Against The Bottom” has a video to accompany it – which I linked to. It’s off of Grieves’ album entitled “Together Apart.” The reason that I put this song up so high at number two is simply because it deserves it. It’s an amazing song from a real artist that deserves more exposure and coverage. If you don’t feel any emotion when listening to this song, you need some help because this is realness at its best. Also I could have easily included the song “On The Rocks” on this list, but I figured I’d save it for next week. Click here to read more.. »

Top Rap Hip Hop Songs July 2011

Here are the Top Hip Hop Songs for July 2011 (specifically as of July 9, 2011) that I listed for the people.  It’s been a whole month since I’ve done a list of the top hip hop music or rap music songs for the people (see: Top Hip Hop Songs for June 2011). I think that I’ve got a really solid balance between underground, mainstream, and emerging artists. In my list, I gravitate towards what I think are the best songs and I base my choices on a combination of factors. Too many people these days think that music is all about lyrics, and that’s just not true.

There are plenty of lyrical artists out there who cannot get a good beat to save their asses. Additionally, there are artists that are lyrical, but don’t have a catchy melody that’s easy for people to understand. There are also artists out there that get awesome beats, but cannot rap their way out of a wet paper bag. Anyways, here goes the top hip hop tracks for July 2011 as of today (July 9th).

1. A.D.H.D. – Kendrick Lamar

This track is off of the Kendrick Lamar Section.80 album which is in stores now. The album is a classic, and although I was debating on whether or not I should put “Ronald Reagan Era” up here, I think I’ll save it for my next list. A.D.H.D. was my favorite track off of the album, and I love when Kendrick says “fuck dot/dat” in the chorus.  I know dude has been solid from the get-go, but he really stepped his game up since he first started.  I’m not going to dickride though like the other bloggers and just say that he’s the best artist in the digital age.  No doubt he’s great though, that’s why I have him with the top track (Top Dawg Entertainment stand up)!
